Henry reveals surprising choice as his favourite Arsenal goal

The Gunners' all-time leading marksman has selected an effort in a FA Cup clash with Leeds during a 2012 loan spell as the pick of his 228 efforts.

Thierry Henry netted some memorable goals for Arsenal down the years, with the Frenchman plundering a club-record 228 in total.

Those efforts came across two spells, with the legendary Frenchman most noted for his eight seasons spent in north London between 1999 and 2007.

That stint included 226 goals of his iconic haul, including spectacular efforts against Manchester United and Tottenham that have gone down in Gunners folklore.

He was, however, to return to Arsenal on loan in 2012, and it was during that short stay at the Emirates that he claims to have netted his favourite goal.

Fittingly, an effort against Leeds United summed up Henry brilliantly - as he collected the ball inside the box, opened up his body and stroked into the bottom corner.

It may not have been the most stunning of strikes, but the World Cup winner says his love of the FA Cup and the fact that he was in the twilight of his career made the occasion all the more special.

He wrote in a column for The Sun: “My first memory of the Cup was the 3-3 ‘Ian Wright final’. I watched that at home in France with my brother. It was magic.

“That gave me the bug. That was my first memory. But one of my last acts in the Cup was special too: my strike against Leeds when I came back to London in 2012 was my favourite goal for Arsenal.

“That one was personal. It won’t go down in FA Cup history but it was the first time I scored as a fan.

“You know, I wasn’t meant to come back and I came back. I wasn’t meant to play, I played. I wasn’t meant to score, I scored.”
