Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is ‘too much of a tactical wizard’, according to former Chelsea player and manager Ruud Gullit.
The Spaniard is still adjusting to life in the Premier League following his summer arrival at the Etihad Stadium.
He has enjoyed success in the past at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with La Liga and Bundesliga puzzles completed to deliver domestic and continental silverware.
The general consensus is that a man widely considered to be among the finest coaching brains in the business will get things right at City and put them in contention for more major honours.
Gullit, though, feels that the Catalan tactician is tinkering too much in his search for a winning formula with his side, particularly at the back, still short of the levels required to land titles.
He told BBC Sport: “The Spaniard is too much of a tactical wizard, and he does it all the time.
"He keeps changing his system between three and four at the back and he is the kind of manager who puts players in three different positions in three different matches, which is too much.
"Eventually he will find a system and things will settle down at City, but it is not working at the moment, especially in their defence.
"I understand why Guardiola is frustrated because City create so many chances in all their games, not just in last weekend's defeat against Chelsea, and it looks unfair when they don't win.
"But football is not fair, football is all about winning - however you do it".
A 3-1 defeat at home to title rivals Chelsea last weekend saw City slip to fourth place in the Premier League standings.
They are, however, only four points off the pace and can start to close that gap on Saturday evening when they face reigning champions Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
