The European commitments of both Celtic and Rangers, kept apart in the semi-final draw, have forced the SPFL to rearrange both semi-finals of the Scottish League cup to the Sunday, as both teams need sufficient recovery time between their respective fixtures.
Aberdeen will face Rangers in the first match of the day at 12 noon, with the kick off for the second semi-final between Hearts and Celtic scheduled for 7.45pm.
Due to the logistical issues surrounding the two fixtures being hosted on the same day by one stadium, Murrayfield (the Scottish national rugby stadium), was considered as a makeshift venue for one of the matches. However now the SPFL has confirmed that Hampden Park will indeed host both contests.
Murrayfield newly had a failed bid to become the new home of the Scotland national football team, but following consultations with the SRU, the Scottish Football Association decided to remain at Hampden Park.
In an interview with 'Sky Sports' news, SPFL chief-executive Neil Doncaster spoke of the vast organisation that will be put into holding both semi-finals at the same venue on the same day; "We've been working very closely with Hampden Park and the four clubs who are in the semi-finals, and also with Police Scotland. We are pleased to have come to an arrangement that suits everyone. It's not ideal, but we are under contractual obligation to bring our semi-final games here if it's manageable from the police and Hampden Park's point of view, and they've assured us that it is."
