Haaland leaves Premier League icons behind as he makes 100th appearance

Many fans had high expectations when Manchester City announced in May 2022 that they had reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Erling Haaland for £60 million, although the Norwegian striker has far exceeded what was expected of him.

The Cityzens striker made history in his debut season with the Manchester club and has since continued to break records in the history of the club and the Premier League.

The Norwegian 'cyborg' was the quickest player ever to reach 50 Premier League goals, taking just 48 matches to hit the half-century and beat Andy Cole (65 games). Elsewhere, he was the quickest ever too to reach 75 Premier League goals, taking just 77 matches to beat Alan Shearer (93). 

Moreover, the former Dortmund striker broke the record for most goals in a single Premier League campaign in his debut season for the Sky Blues, scoring 36 goals in his 35 appearances, to surpass Andy Cole and Alan Shearer (who both set the 34-goal record in 42-game terms.)

To understand the heights of Erling Haaland's achievements in the Premier League, we can consider that the Manchester City striker has already scored 88 goals in 100 appearances in the Premier League, stratospheric figures when compared to other legends of English football's elite. 

While the Norwegian has beaten the opposing goalkeeper 88 times in 100 matches, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer scored 79 goals in 100 matches, followed by Van Nistelrooy (68), Mo Salah (63), Robbie Fowler and Sergio Aguero (64), Luis Suarez (62), Harry Kane and Thierry Henry (59), Aubameyang (57)... among other stars.
