Borussia Dortmund have got a one goal advantage going into the second leg thanks to Erling Haaland. The Germans were the more dangerous side in a first half with few clear cut chances and then in the 69th minute, they made the breakthrough. A cross by Achraf was shot by Guerreiro, his effort was deflected by Marquinhos and the ball popped up nicely for Haaland to hit home.
Neymar hit back six minutes later by tapping in from six yards after a tremendous move by Kylian Mbappe on the far side, but the French side's joy was short lived. Two minutes later, Dortmund attacked from their own half, substitute Giovanni Reyna got the ball and he laid it off to Haaland who smacked home from inside the D. Neymar then hit the post and Thiago Silva headed over with the last play of the match, but they were unable to find an equaliser. The last 30 minutes were incredibly lively.
Before that, it was a typical first leg game. Very tactical and fairly even with Dortmund edging it. PSG had plenty of possession, but their only real chance was Neymar's free kick in the 11th minute which went narrowly wide. Dortmund had a few clear opportunities though, especially on the counter.
Jadon Sancho first hit an effort off target and then in the 27th minute, he was given a pass by Emre Can and his curling shot was excellently saved by Keylor Navas in the PSG goal. On the rebound, Achraf saw his effort blocked by the sliding defender. Eight minutes later, Sancho gave the ball to Haaland who hit the side netting with his hit and then seconds later, Sancho turned provider again by sending a nice cross to the far post, but Haaland headed wide.
Axel Witsel hit one well over the bar four minutes before half-time and even though it was goalless at the interval, Dortmund were the better team. In the second half, Dortmund continued to have the upper hand, but the game was much more open.
Navas made a vital stop from Achraf's cutback three minutes into the second half and then Marco Verratti had to make a vital intervention to prevent Haaland bearing down on goal. The game then entered a quieter period and it was actually PSG who looked the better in the minutes prior to Dortmund's first goal. Mbappe had a shot for the away side and then seconds later, Burki made a superb save to deny him after good link up play with Neymar.
However, three minutes later, Dortmund hit the front through Haaland after a little bit of good fortune saw the ball fall to the Norwegian. Neymar hit back six minutes later after Mbappe beat three or four players to lay the ball on a plate for the Brazilian. Haaland then responded with a lovely strike of his own two minutes later to restore Dortmund's lead in a mad eight minutes of football.
The match remained open after that and Neymar struck the post nine minutes from time after Meunier headed Verratti's ball to the far post back across to the near. Dortmund had not finished themeselves though and Achraf nearly made it 3-1 five minutes later. Thiago Silva headed over Neymar's corner with the last play of the match and Dortmund earned an important victory. It is worth pointing out there were just three substitutions in the match and PSG made just one bringing on Sarabia for Di Maria despite having Icardi and Cavani on the bench.
Even though PSG did not concede a third, the final five minutes were costly for them. Meunier and Verratti saw costly yellows after fouling Reyna and protesting to the referee respectively. They will now miss the second leg and PSG will miss them. However, one goal at home will see the French side through. It is all set up nicely for the second leg.
