Guinea v Morocco called off due to attempted Coup d'Etat

CAF and FIFA decided to postpone the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Guinea and Morocco, scheduled to take place on Monday in Conakri, due to the "current political and security situation" after the arrest of the Guinean president by the military. 

In a statement, CAF, whose headquarters are in Cairo, said that "in order to guarantee the security of all the players and to protect all the match officials, FIFA and CAF have decided to postpone the qualifier between Guinea and Morocco which was scheduled for Monday in the Guinean capital. 

"The current political and security situation in Guinea is quite volatile and it is being looked at closely by FIFA and CAF," CAF said in a brief statement, without mentioning when the game will be rearranged for.

The statement has been issued after Guinea president, Alpha Conde, was arrested this Sunday by the military from the special armed forces group, according to their commander, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.

In an apparent Coup d'Etat, the Colonel also announced, in a video spread on social media, that the military have agreed "to dissolve the existing constitution and the Government."
