Goals from Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez helped the reigning champions to victory on the night, though Abdoulaye Doucoure's late goal meant that things weren't as comfortable as they perhaps should have been for City late on.
Such nerves could have been avoided had Jesus, who was handed a start in place of the injured Sergio Aguero, buried a glorious chance in the second half to put his side out of sight.
Following an impressive start to life in English football, Jesus has struggled more of late, scoring just one of City's 45 Premier League goals so far this season, with that coming against Huddersfield all the way back in August.
Indeed, Jesus has scored just five goals in 18 games in all competitions so far this season in one of the world's best attacking teams, three of which came in a 6-0 drubbing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.
However, speaking following the Watford win, Guardiola jumped to Jesus' defence, saying that he brings plenty of other qualities to the City side.
"It's important he had the chances, creating the spaces, and the second goal he create for himself," explained Guardiola, pointing to his assist for Mahrez's strike. "[He] does many, many other things, in terms of the pressing, in terms of helping in many, many situations."
Aguero sat out the game after pulling up with an abductor problem in training on Monday, with Guardiola providing the following update on the Argentine: "I don't know right now, tomorrow they are going to tell me, they are going to make the real check."
