During his first season in England, Pep Guardiola spent 203 million Euros on reinforcements for Manchester City: John Stones (55.6), Ilkay Gündogan (27), Leroy Sané (50.5), Gabriel Jesus (32), Claudio Bravo (18), Nolito (18) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (2).
After finishing his first season trophyless, the Catalan boss was further backed by the board with a 300 million Euro investment on talent in the summer of 2017, with Bernardo Silva (50), Benjamin Mendy (57,5), Ederson (44), Kyle Walker (52,7), Danilo (30) and, in January, Aymeric Laporte (65) all arriving as they won the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.
Last summer, City bought just one player, although it was Riyad Mahrez for a club record 67.8 million Euro fee. They enjoyed an extremely successful season, winning an unprecedented domestic quadruple (Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield) but falling once again in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Now, Guardiola has handpicked Spanish midfielder Rodri as the man he wants to help his side maintain their domestic dominance, with the 23 year-old arriving for a new club record fee of 70 million Euros. He may be the best manager in the world, but it certainly helps that he always does manage some of the best players in the world.
