Guardiola does not consider Nunes 'clever enough' to play in midfield

Manchester City manager Guardiola gave an honest assessment of Matheus Nunes' performances at right-back, a role to which the Portugal international has been adapting this season. Speaking after City's recent 0-0 draw in the Manchester derby, Guardiola highlighted Nunes' progress in the new role.
"He can become a good right-back for his physicality. I think he's not a player to play in midfield because he's not clever enough, in composure," he said.
Despite this criticism the City boss was quick to praise Nunes' defensive contributions, particularly his ability to defend Bruno Fernandes and Dorgu's crosses during the game. "He is learning a lot. He has helped us a lot in that position," Guardiola added.
Although some fans have questioned the change, others see potential in Nunes' development under Guardiola's guidance. "When you start the season if you said Matheus will play right-back, you would ask what I’m talking about. But it is what it is," concluded Guardiola.
