It was Gross himself who won the penalty after Fred lost the ball in midfield. The Manchester United defence parted like the red sea and the German was played through into the box.
He shifted his weight left to take the ball away from David de Gea, and Bailly inexplicably scythed him down. Clear penalty and the referee wasted no time pointing to the spot.
Gross then stepped up and clipped a very non-chalant effort down the centre of the goal.
It was not the finest penalty and de Gea did get a foot on it, but having dived to his right he was unable to stop it from crossing the line and Brighton had a 3-1 lead.
It makes for difficult viewing for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United fans, who were nowhere near the pace they needed to be at in the first half.
