It's once again becoming the summer Antoine Griezmann. It was in 2018, when he eventually decided not to leave for Barca, and in 2019, when he definitively secured his move to the Catalan club. Now, the Frenchman is in the news for the exact opposite: his club want rid of him.
The Frenchman's number's don't paint the picture of a failure at the Camp Nou. However, his impressive second campaign coincided with a very irregular term in which many criticised him for disappearing in big games.
But Griezmann's potential departure has nothing to do with his football. Barca need to offload some weight from their wage bill and for that reason are willing to offer him to the highest bidder. A possible swap deal with Atletico has already been talked about - although this now looks unlikely to go through - as have a number of moves to clubs from the Premier League and Serie A.
What looks clear is that he will leave. However, according to 'L'Equipe', he won't make this easy. The close friends of the player admitted to the media outlet that he would not facilitate any sort of move: "He won't accept conditions to leave because Barca find themselves in a complicated economic situation".
A return to Atletico could match up perfectly, but both Simeone and owner Cerezo have quelled the hype over a potential move. Barca too, who don't want to simply give away a player for whom they payed a lot of money for. They would love a swap deal along with a healthy cash sum.
A complicated situation which has Barcelona's hands and feet certainly tied, as they continue waiting for movements of this sort to be able to finally renew Leo Messi's contract as soon as possible.
