The defeat to Juventus could have disastrous consequences for Atletico Madrid as it may mean they lose their star striker Antoine Griezmann. The forward's future is now in doubt as he considers whether he would have a better chance of winning trophies elsewhere.
And according to 'L'Equipe', Catalan giants Barcelona are ready to swoop for him, despite Griezmann having recently signed a contract to stay in the Spanish capital until 2023. When he signed this contract he seemed destined to stay, and along with the presentation was included a video of him declaring his love for the club.
But months later, and with the club's fight for both domestic and European trophies seemingly already over, the forward has changed his mind. It is believed that Griezmann's release clause was raised to 200 million euros in the new contract, and it remains to be seen whether Barcelona would consider triggering this clause as they look to replace the ageing Luis Suarez.
