Gomez has been injured for Liverpool since December 5th, after fracturing his leg against Burnley in the Premier League. Gomez returned to training on Tuesday, but will need to improve his fitness to be considered for the starting team. "It's nice, Joe is not injured anymore and is nearly fit" Klopp said to the Liverpool website.
Gomez had an endurance session in the afternoon to get back to full fitness, a similar idea to that of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his long break. Klopp is also unsure of his plan for the match against Tottenham Hotspur, with Trent Alexander-Arnold also injured, but possibly back for this weekend. Xherdan Shaqiri also stayed in Liverpool and missed Switzerland's matches against Georgia and Denmark.
Shaqiri is likely to play against Spurs, despite his lack of full fitness. Oxlade-Chamberlain may also be selected despite suffering a muscle injury for the under 23s. "I spoke to him a second ago; Ox is positive, we are all positive, it was a little setback, it was not more, but it was a setback. That's how it is. You don't want to be overly sensitive after a period like this because they train a lot - training is always like this, it's like stress for the body" Klopp said on Oxlade-Chamberlain resuming playing for the first team.
