"I'm very nervous, more than in a game. Thank everyone- colleagues, physios, coaching staff, legends, leaders and family that are here", an emotional Godín started by saying.
"I've called the press conference today because these are my last days at Atlético Madrid", he continued.
"I wanted to let you know, because of the love I have for this shirt, because I respect this fans, because I'm just another fan. It's not just a club, it's been my family, my home, my way of life. I'm here to thank you for all these years. I never imagined this moment would come".
"I was brought up with great values of sacrifice, hard work, humility and respect for the opponent, my teammates, the profession, those in and around this wonderful sport", the Atleti captain added.
Diego Godín, who broke down at various points during the press conference, spoke about his time as a 'rojiblanco' player: "We have shared beautiful moments and not so beautiful ones, which have all meant a lot. I'm glad that I've done things well, in the dressing room, on the pitch, but especially off it because it's the most important thing".

After Godín had spoken, Atlético president Enrique Cerezo took the microphone: "We are together today to say goodbye to an extraordinary footballer who has given everything in these years. It's not a farewell, it's a way of thanking you.
"We're very proud of you because we know what you've given for this badge. Courage and heart define us, but there is no one better than you as an example for those who come after. You've been key in these years of success, like your goal at the Camp Nou or others at decisive moments, even playing whilst being injured," he added.

After an emotional montage of his best moments at the club, the Uruguayan international took various questions from the press, where he admitted that he had not been able to reach an agreement with the club on a new deal.
"I'm captain of this team, we've had a lot of conversations, but we haven't reached an agreement. For me it's the end of a stage, a cycle. The most beautiful stage of my career and of my life. Proud to have been part of this stage and the history of this club. Grateful to everyone since the day I arrived," he concluded about his departure.
