Gerrard scored again at Anfield and celebrated by shushing Celtic fans

It has been a long time since Steven Gerrard last wore a football kit. The Liverpool legend made his last official appearance at Anfield on 16th May 2015, in a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. This month, for a charity match, he pulled on his boots again to be part of a team of the Reds legends who faced a Celtic side. As a result, he got to experience again the tingling sensation of scoring a goal at home.

The now coach, capitalising on a penalty in his side's favour, scored and celebrated his goal by approaching the Glasgow supporters' stand to celebrate at home. The response from the fans was clear: throwing objects, including a few bottles. As a result, the former player put his index finger to the centre of his mouth to tell the fans to shut up while pointing to the crest of his lifelong club.

He could also be seen, depending on the perspective shared on social media - several spectators captured him from angles that gave a better view of what was thrown at him from the seats and how he responded - raising his other arm in circles to include Liverpool's fans in the celebration, which quickly gained a lot of attention on social media. 

It is worth bearing in mind, as context for the gesture between Steven Gerrard and the Celtic fans, that in his time as manager, the one that occupies his current life, he won the 2021 Scottish League with Rangers. In that season, the title was won with a tally of 102 points, 25 more than their eternal rivals, who failed to even come close in the championship finals after falling well behind in the regular season.
