The DFL rejected the request to stop the Bungesliga and DFB Pokal for several weeks due to the pandemic situation in Germany. According to the body, which is responsible for the management of the two competitions, everything will continue as planned.

The development of the pandemic is causing concern in Germany because of the considerable increase in the number of infections in recent weeks. This situation has led to calls for a halt to the country's top football competitions.

However, the DFL confirmed that there will be no temporary suspension in the Bundesliga or the DFB Pokal. This was the DFL's response to a request from the president of Erzgebirge Aue, Germany's second-tier club, for a stoppage until December.

According to club president Helge Leonhardt, the priority must be to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection and reduce the burden on the health system. In Germany, stadiums have been open to all spectators for months now.

For the time being, German football will continue. After the European fixtures, the 13th round of the Bundesliga kicks off this Friday with Stuttgart-Mainz 05. The DFB Pokal round of 16 will take place in January.
