The French referee Stephanie Frappart once again made history after becoming the first woman to take charge of a Europa League group stage game between Leicester and Zorya. She was the UEFA Super Cup referee back on 14th August 2019 between Liverpool and Chelsea.
Ahead of the match, the referee said: "There's not much difference. It's the teams which play differently, but it's the same game between men and women and for me, refereeing is the same."
The match between Leicester and Zorya, which Frappart officiated, passed off without major incidents and the home side won 3-0. James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Another step made in her career after becoming the first woman to officiate a men's UEFA game when Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties. The Super Cup ended 2-2 after 120 minutes and Adrian San Miguel was the hero for the Reds.
Frappart, 36. is not the first female official to take charge of a men's UEFA game though. That was Nicole Petignat who did UEFA Cup qualifying matches between 2004 and 2009, according to UEFA data.
She has already done three Ligue 1 games and is becoming a regularly in top European competitions. She did Djurgardens 2-1 Europa FC in Europa League qualifying and Malta 1-1 Latvia in the Nations League.
