Derby are in contact with a number of candidates, with their list of targets including the likes of; Brentford's Dean Smith, Preston's Alex Neil, Wigan's Paul Cook and Millwall's Neil Harris.
Of his hopes to start coaching in a professional capacity, Lampard has completed his A Licence coaching badge and is being considered seriously as a contender for the top job at Derby.
The former midfielder says: ''I've spent a lot of time at Chelsea this year, gaining hours of experience. With the right opportunity and right timing for me, I'd take a very close look at it.''
However, although an appointment is expected sometime next week, Derby owner Mel Morris is cautious about rushing into a decision, and is understood to be looking at several different options.
