Things are not going well for Barca in 2020. After the 'I3 Ventures' scandal, there was the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde and now, after the COVID-19 break, there has been a clear decline in their performances.
For many Barcelona fans, another nonsense decision would be if Arthur Melo, a young player with a bright future, were to leave in a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic and is now at the back end of his career.
Victor Font, a candidate to the Barca presidency for next year, gave his opinion on this move and slammed the board for allowing it.
"This swap deal, which seems imminent, once again shows the reality that the state of the club is very worrying: a precarious financial situation," he said.
"The deal once again shows that the board's absolute priority is to balance the books by letting key players go. The financial situation has been bad for many years, long before the pandemic," he continued on Twitter.
Font recalled that a similar thing happened last year when there was a swap deal involving Neto and Cillessen: "Last year it was Cillessen-Neto. This year, to balance the books, the board let go a young promise who would be good strategically in the future. It is once again proof that there is no sporting project in a key moment for the institution."
The candidate for the Barca presidency concluded: "The swap involving Arthur and Pjanic is possibly overrated and it is a financial decision."
