More than a month after Uruguay were knocked out of the World Cup against Ghana, FIFA have handed out punishments. After the game in question, Gimenez, Muslera, Cavani and Godin were furious and they will now have to suffer the consequences.
Those to be worst affected are Gimenez and Muslera. The pair have been suspended for four matches. These bans only apply to international matches and so their respective clubs, Atletico and Galatasaray, will be unaffected.
Both Gimenez and Muslera will have to pay a fine of 20,000 euros for their behaviour. That was decided by FIFA's disciplinary commission.
Godin and Cavani have also been suspended as well. These two have been suspended for one game and received a fine of 15,000 euros.
As well as these suspensions, Uruguay have been hit with a 50,000 euro fine. Their next home international will also see their stadium partially closed.
FIFA had already opened disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay, Gimenez, Cavani, Muslera and Godin. Now, they all know their punishment after fuming at being knocked out of the World Cup. There was talk of them being suspended from all football for six months so it could have been worse.
After beating Ghana 0-2, Gimenez told one of the pitchside cameras: "Bunch of thieves, sons of b****es!". Muslera also went beserk after the game and that is why they got more severe suspensions than Cavani and Godin.
