Feyenoord skipper Timber out for season with knee injury

This is a significant blow not only ahead of their Champions League play-off return against Milan but for the rest of their campaign. The club captain is set to undergo surgery in the coming days.

The injury occurred during the first leg against Milan. In the second half, the midfielder jumped and landed with his knee hyperextended. Initially, it seemed Timber could continue playing, but he later requested to be substituted, and medical tests confirmed the severity of the injury.

Timber will undergo surgery shortly and begin his recovery process. Feyenoord expressed their support for the player in their statement, wishing him "strength and success" during his rehabilitation. Timber has family experience with knee injuries, as his brother, Jurrien Timber, also suffered a knee problem shortly after joining Arsenal.

"This is a shock for all of us, and we stand by Timber," said Feyenoord head coach Pascal Bosschaart, who is facing several injury concerns ahead of the Milan fixture. Other notable absences include goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, defenders Facu Gonzalez and Gernot Trauner, full-back Bart Nieuwkoop, and forward Ayase Ueda, who also suffered an injury after the first leg against Milan.

On a positive note, Feyenoord will welcome back key player Calvin Stengs, who has been out for nearly a month. The attacking midfielder hasn't played since their 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the group stages but will now rejoin the squad as they look to hold onto their 1-0 advantage from the first leg at San Siro.
