Fernando Llorente retires aged 37

After his contract at Eibar ended last summer, Fernando Llorente has taken the decision to hang up his boots. He does so at the age of 37 and after having played in three countries. "I'm happy. I've not played for eight months since I left Eibar in June and I'm seeing that I like it now I've quit football," the former footballer told 'Movistar' programme 'La Casa del Futbol'. 

The striker came through the Athletic Bilbao academy, where he made his first team debut in the 2004-05 season. Since then, he made a total of 333 appearances in all competitions (La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League and Europa League) for Athletic Bilbao. He also netted more than 100 times for the Basques.

He also got 24 caps for Spain. He was part of the 23 man Spain squad selected by Vicente del Bosque which won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. 

The attacker was at three different Spanish clubs. As well as playing for Athletic Bilbao, he won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2016 while he ended his career at Segunda side Eibar.

He also went abroad and shone during his time there. He played in the Premier League for Tottenham and Swansea. At Spurs, he helped the club reach the 2019 Champions League final while he was at Napoli and Juventus in Serie A. There he won three Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and two Italian Super Cups.
