Fernandez 'not racist' but must learn, claims Chelsea teammate Fofana

FIFA opened an investigation into racist chanting by Argentina players after winning the Copa America. The chants were heard during a live video posted on social media by Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez from the team bus in the wake of the Copa victory over Colombia in Miami.

However, the Blues have already forgiven his teammate for his actions as the Argentinian apologised to the entire squad and promised to make a charitable donation to an anti-racism organisation.

Wesley Fofana, who was one of the Chelsea players most affected by Fernandez's racist chanting, said in an interview for 'The Athletic' that the midfielder is "not a racist" but that he has to learn to behave himself.

"I trust him because I know him. I know he is not racist. The act... I felt a little bit upset. But now, it is done. It is finished. I hope this has educated him a bit, because for sure, it is a different culture. We need to educate about this because cultures are different, a lot of countries," he said.

"I don't think a big sanction [like a fine] for Enzo is a good process. We need to educate about this because cultures are different, a lot of countries. We don't have the same education, for good or bad. But we need to educate everybody if we don't want a repeat," Fofana concluded.
