The first half of the second-leg was all about Villarreal. The Spanish side went into the break with the aggregate score level at 2-2 after Unai Emery's men miraculously netted two first half goals against a virtually unstoppable Liverpool side this season.
However, the second half was a different story. Jurgen Klopp introduced Luis Diaz at half time in an attempt to find the penetration that his side so lacked in the first half.
In the 61st minute, everything started to fall apart for the hosts. Fabinho carried the ball into the box and fired a shot towards the near post as he noticed Villarreal keeper, Gero Rulli, leave a gap. Rulli scurried across but in doing so, he saw the shot squirm through his legs and hit the back of the net.
This marked the Brazilian's first Champions League goal for Liverpool, and his first of the competition since 2017. On that occasion, he netted against Manchester City when playing for Monaco.
