In the Copa del Rey first round draw, Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, sung the praises, once again, of the tournament's new format, as well as the smaller clubs' reception of it.
As host, Rubiales admitted: "We are really happy with this format. Now we are giving out €112 million to grassroots football when before it was €110 million. That has been achieved thanks to the Spanish Super Cup, considering that half the earnings go to them".
"Before, 1% of the Copa del Rey's funding was from La Liga, which managed the selling rights and it was around €15 million. Now, it is over €40 million, which is 40%" he said.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Real Betis are exempt from this knock-out game, as they are the teams which are in the Spanish Super Cup at the start of next year.
