The option of Eriksen moving to Manchester United gave Real Madrid a ray of hope. With his signing, the team which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer manages would have a quality footballer to replace Pogba. However, that has now gone pear-shaped.
If a few hours ago, Eriksen was seen as the key that could unlock the Pogba move, the Dane has become a double edged sword and his refusal to join Manchester United has left, with just one day left in the transfer window, Pogba's possible move to Real Madrid in serious trouble. The English side would have just 24 hours to look for a substitute for Pogba and negotiate the departure of the Frenchman to Real Madrid... something which is practically impossible.
According to 'Sky Sports', Eriksen's rejection was motivated, curiously by Real Madrid and Atletico. Both teams showed interest for him in recent weeks especially Atletico and Eriksen would rather move to La Liga than stay in the Premier League.
In this situation, the Pogba situation is practically closed except unexpected movement at the last minute. However, taking into account the transfer window in England closes at 6pm this Thursday, everything seems to indicate that Pogba will continue being a Red Devil.
What could come up again in these final hours of activity in the English market is the Eriksen move because the Dane has a very good chance of leaving, since his contract at Tottenham ends in a year and he has no intention of renewing it. Atletico, amid the uncertainty because of James, could take up this option again.
With regards to Real Madrid, it seems like Real Madrid will have to go all after Donny van de Beek who is still participating a great deal for Ajax. So much so that he started this Tuesday in a Champions League qualifier against PAOK. The possible arrival of Fabinho to Real Madrid has not been ruled out either.
