Erik ten Hag held his first press conference of the pre-season as Manchester United manager. And, as expected, the Dutch coach was asked by the press about the continuity of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Although the Portuguese star has one more year left on his contract with the English club, he has been the talk of leaving Old Trafford this summer. But Ten Hag has made it clear that the Portuguese striker will remain at United for another season.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale. He is not with us because of personal issues, but he is in our plans. We are planning the season with Cristiano Ronaldo, that's all," the Dutch manager said after the former Juventus man sat out United's pre-season training camp due to a "family issue", the club said in an official statement.
He added: "I am looking forward to working with Cristiano. I spoke to him before this came up and it was a very good conversation. He didn't tell me that he wanted to leave.... We want to achieve success together.
In the last hours, one of the teams that seemed to be the most likely to sign the former Real Madrid player, Chelsea, has been left out of the possible fight for his signature. According to 'Sky Sports', Thomas Tuchel himself asked the London club's management to rule out the option of signing the Portugal captain.
