Emery's preparations for Arsenal's first season without Wenger since 1996 have begun in earnest, with the Gunners playing their first pre-season friendly on Saturday. They walked all over Boreham Wood, winning the friendly 8-0, and the coach took a moment to discuss some questions over his plans.
Managing this transition into a new era at the club is a delicate task, and he was asked if there was any fear of a repeat of David Moyes' underwhelming time at the helm at Manchester United following on from Alex Ferguson's legendary reign. Emery replied that this is a different situation.
"With my actions each day I want to give the players a way that is different," he explained. "It's not better, it's not worse. It's just a different moment for this club to start thinking we can all work together in one good way."
"This is different to United. I have my personality, we have our idea and with our personality and confidence I want to give us this confidence to be more strong to work this way."
Emery praised Wenger, saying that he will retain a respect for what the Frenchman did at the club. "I said at the first press conference at the Emirates, for me I have high respect for Arsene," he said.
"In Nyon every year, he spoke and the other coaches were quiet and listened to him. I am going to do my work here but respecting many, many things here that he did well."
The former PSG boss emphasised the importance of having the fans onside. "First, all the supporters love Arsenal and Arsenal love the supporters," he stated. "We need to work together and the first way to do that is by finding the performance.
"Through this performance, finding one clear identity. I want a team with energy and I want the players to give their all on the pitch."
