Right back Emerson, who was at Real Betis last season, has confirmed he will be at Barcelona next season. He is currently in the Brazil camp preparing for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
"For certain. Everyone knows I've got a contract at Barcelona from 1st July. I have a three year contract with Barca. And, as the press have said, Barcelona have got in contact with Betis and announced that they want to count on me for next season," the defender said in a press conference.
Emerson belongs to both Real Betis and Barcelona, who got him from Atletico Mineiro in Brazil. However, the agreement said that the player would play the first two seasons at Betis and then the next three for the Catalan giants.
Barcelona, who have been looking for a reliable right-back for sometime, seem willing to pay what they are required to get Emerson next season. It would cost them around nine million euros.
"I'm happy because they're the club I've dreamed about playing for since the beginning of my career. Having that recognition is fundamental for me. All players want to get a Barcelona contract. I want to come as soon as possible and try and nail down a spot in the team," he said.
On reports that said that talks had run into some difficulties, Emerson was clear. he said that he has a Barcelona contract and wants to stick to it.
"Barcelona showed interest in counting on me for next season. It's excellent for a footballer to get recognition from a club like Barcelona. That is fruit of my work and God willing, I'll be at Barcelona next season," he concluded.
