Chelsea picked up just their second Champions League in the club's history after narrowly beating Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the Do Dragao in Porto. Havertz's solitary goal just minutes before the break was enough to see Thomas Tuchel's side get their hands on the famous trophy.
A victory that has come as a result of one key player's outstanding performances - goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy. BeSoccer Pro analyses the performance of the Senegalese keeper and reveals his important in Chelsea's triumphant European campaign.
The keeper has had an outstanding season for the 'Blues', and the stats back it up. Chelsea had to play 12 matches to be crowned champions of Europe's elite competition, which they did thanks, in part, to keeping a clean sheet in a whopping 75% of their matches.
Mendy made a total of 2.91 saves per match on Europe's biggest stage, one every 28.42 minutes of the tournament. An ability to keep the ball out of the net which undoubtedly formed an integral part in Chelsea's Champions League triumph.
On just three occasions (against Rennes, Porto and Real Madrid) did he he concede a goal. Only against the Portuguese side did their late goal end in defeat for the 'Blues' - however, by this point, the tie had already been decided with Chelsea going through on aggregate.
In other words, he conceded just three goals throughout the season on the continent, when coming against opposition of the stature of Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
But Mendy went one step further in terms of his records this season, as he became the first African goalkeeper to win the coveted title. A debut season that he will certainly never forget.
