Newcastle have been at the forefront of transfer news in the football sphere in recent weeks. Their new found riches culminated in a transfer injection of 100 million euros in the last transfer window, as the club from the North East signed Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and, Matt Targett, on loan until the end of the season.
These new arrivals bolster all areas of the squad apart from that of the goalkeeper. The Magpies attempted to bring in a new keeper during the final days of the window by offering Martin Dubravka to Manchester United in return for the Red Devils' second keeper, Dean Henderson.
However, the deal did not go without its critics. The 'Manchester Evening News' has reported that Dubravka himself was the one to refuse a move to Old Trafford and stand in De Gea's shadow until the end of the season. The 33 year old Slovakian decided to stay at Newcastle.
Despite Manchester United's woes this season, De Gea is enjoying a great season individually. He received the Premier League´s player of the month award for January. This is a feat he was yet to achieve in his eleven years at Old Trafford.
