Dortmund made a rather surprising announcement a few days back when they confirmed the purchase of Erling Haaland. Dortmund beat other big sides to the former Salzburg player and they used a rather interesting strategy to make sure they got their man.
According to 'The Athletic', Markus Pilawa, the head of scouting at the German club, and his team used Whatsapp to persuade the young striker to join them.
The Germans asked their footballers to send messages to Haaland to convince him of the good things about signing for Dortmund.
In the same way, the Dortmund outfit asked Puma for help in signing him. The Puma CEO, who is Norwegian, made a big offer to Haaland to try and get him to switch from Nike to Puma. Even if he did not switch, it allowed him to negotiate a better deal with Nike.
Finally, Dortmund were happy with the financial conditions they had to meet and the footballer was also satisfied. Pilawa, to round off an unbelievable story, confessed that the team discovered Haaland in 2016 when they were looking at other footballers. Since then, he has grown tremendously.
