Following goals from Arnautovic and Monreal in the first half, Arsenal were in need of a goal to take the lead in the game.
The 70th minute came along, with the ball bouncing around in the air on the edge of the West Ham area with neither side able to bring it down. Eventually, Aaron Ramsey got a touch on the ball and headed it past the defence towards the running Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman chested the ball down before trying to hit a cross-shot on the half-volley whilst on the turn with his back to goal.
The ball then cannoned off the chest of an unfortunate Issa Diop, making his debut today for Manuel Pellegrini's side, and straight into an empty net with goalkeeper Fabianski left stranded.
Unai Emery's side entered the closing stages with a 2-1 lead.
