Diego Costa has made it clear that he wants a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with a return to former club Atletico Madrid his preferred option.
However, the striker may have to report back to training at Chelsea after the deal to bring him back to the Spanish capital is becoming increasingly complicated.
Atletico, who are banned from registering players until the January transfer window, have only offered around £30 million, half of what Chelsea want for the centre-forward.
His switch to Simeone's side would have included a loan move to a different team until January, but a source close to negotiations told Sky Sports that the chances of a last-minute deal are 'improbable', while also stating 'in football nothing is impossible'.
With a few hours to go for the transfer deadline in Spain, negotiations between both clubs continue.
