France's 4-2 victory over Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow completed Deschamps impressive double, with the 49-year-old having previously captained his country to the title back in 1998.
Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer is another to have achieved the feat, having skippered West Germany to victory in 1974 before coaching their successful 1990 side.
Meanwhile, the lesser known Mario Zagallo completes the membership of the exclusive club having featured in both of Brazil's wins in 1958 and 1962, before managing the side that won the tournament in 1970.
Deschamps was one of the most decorated players of his era, winning two Champions Leagues, two French top-flight titles and three Serie A titles, along with the FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA European Championship in what was a trophy-laden career.
As of Sunday night he will have another trophy for his collection.
