Diarra, 31, is attracting interest from the Premier League and the 'Guardian' is reporting that both Manchester United and West Ham are interested in the Marseille midfielder.
A move to the Hammers appears to be more complicated as Diarra would likely be involved in a swap deal for Payet, but West Ham will not want to sell their star man.
Meanwhile, a move to Manchester United could potentially be on the cards, and Morgan Schneiderlin could be used as part of the deal.
Interestingly, it was Jose Mourinho who sold Diarra to Portsmouth for just £2m while at Chelsea. The Frenchman proved to be a great success on the south coast, winning the FA Cup with the club and later moving to Real Madrid.
