'Di Stefano was so good he could have been Brazilian'

Although the pair rarely faced off during their careers due to Di Stefano playing in Europe and Pele in Brazil, there was always a mutual respect and admiration between the pair, as Pele's latest quotes go to show.

The former Santos and Brazil star took to Twitter to post a message about the Real Madrid great, with the post showing a huge amount of respect to go with its jokey tone.

"Alfredo Di Stefano may not have played in a World Cup but it didn't matter. He was so good, he could have been Brazilian," read the post, which came with a photo of the pair posing together in Pele's more formative years ahead of a 5-3 victory for Real Madrid over Santos (1959).

Di Stefano famously never played at a World Cup, despite playing international football for Argentina, Colombia and Spain.
