Details of Griezmann's possible Barça contract revealed
In a few frantic hours on Tuesday, Antoine Griezmann put an end to his five-year Atlético Madrid career. He told the club of his intention to leave on Tuesday morning, and went on to confirm it publicly himself with a video in the evening.
Last summer, the Frenchman came close to joining Barcelona, but announced his decision to stay at Atleti in a controversial documentary, with a possible Champions League final in front of his home fans at the Wanda Metropolitano and an important pay rise helping sway his decision. Barcelona now seems to be his most likely destination once again, although PSG are rumoured to be interested.
Following Barcelona's reported interest, 'L'Équipe' published this Wednesday what will reportedly be the figures behind Griezmann's contract at the Camp Nou, who may have to make room for the 28 year-old by selling one of their current stars. Despite his agent claiming otherwise, the much-maligned Philippe Coutinho looks favourite to make way, giving Barcelona room to sign the Atleti forward.
According to the French press, Griezmann will sign with the Catalan giants until 2024, but will have to take a pay cut to play for the Spanish champions. The World Cup winner currently earns 21 million euros a year at Atlético, but he will reportedly take home 17 million euros annually at Barcelona.
Griezmann and Barça reportedly made this agreement back in March, meaning all that is left now is for the 'Azulgrana' to pay the French international's buyout clause, which will sit at 120 million euros after 1st July.
