The Dutchman was reborn last seaosn following his frustrating spell with Manchester United, scoring 22 times and laying on 17 assists in 51 games in all competitions and helping Lyon to form one of the most feared attacking units in world football.
However, it appears that success may have gone to his head, with the 24-year-old failing to report for pre-season training on Tuesday.
That's according to manager Bruno Genesio, who was at a loss to explain his lack of attendance given that the players had just enjoyed five weeks off.
"Memphis missed training. He will be fined when he returns. He's had five weeks on holiday like everyone else," Genesio was quoted as saying.
The Dutch international's attitude has often come into question during his fledgling career to date and barring a simple explanation, it appears that it will continue to dominate the headlines for the forseeable future.
