Dele Alli accused of racism after joking about the coronavirus

While people in China are dying and some Chinese people have suffered racism due to the coronavirus, Dele Alli joked about it in a Snapchat video. The Tottenham footballer was called a racist after making a comment. 

"Corona what? Please listen with volume," the player wrote while the camera panned on an Asian man behind him. 

It was not the only video Dele Alli published on this social media platform. "This virus has to be quicker than that to catch me,·he said while focussing on a soap to wash his hands. 

People on social media did not take long to express their anger aganst the England international who, aware of the situation, apologised on Weibo, the most popular social media outlet in China. 

"I want to apologise for the video I posted on Snapchat. It wasn't funny. I realised that immediately and I removed. it. It's not something that should be joked about. Sending all my love, thoughts and prayers for everyone in China," he said.
