Spain's success in the World Cup in South Africa had lots of heroes. Iniesta, Casillas, Villa... but we should also not forget about Carles Puyol's lovely header in the semi-final versus Germany.
Vicente del Bosque recalled it in 'La Futboleria' on 'AS': "I told them one or two days before the match that the German defence, in set piece situations, are too passive and zonal."
The former coach explained what they decided to do: "I asked them what they thought and what they did with their clubs. At the beginning, they were a bit reluctant to talk, but they finally decided to give their views. And they reached that conclusion."
"It's true that you had to have a Xavi Hernandez who touched the ball how he did it to put the ball on Carles' head, Pique and Sergio Ramos to do their job to protect him, Villa messing around near the goalkeeper," Del Bosque continued almost 10 years on from that match.
The former Spain boss thinks that asking his footballers for advice did not mean he lost power: "That was not a sign of weakness, completely the opposite."
