Deeney reveals hurtful comments wishing his baby son 'gets coronavirus'

Troy Deeney, captain of the Watford, has reported threats to his five-month-old son for refusing to train because of fears about the coronavirus.

The England striker announced a few days ago that he would not return to training with his team because of concerns about the virus, as his five-month-old son has respiratory problems.

"I've seen some comments about my son where people say 'I hope your son gets coronavirus'. That's the hardest part for me. If you respond, you see that they've caught you and they're still doing it," Deeney told CNN.

After the Premier has approved contact training on Wednesday, Deeney is expected to return to workout with his teammates next week after discussions with England's deputy medical director, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam.

"He's done very well and has done a lot of research and there's a lot of goodwill on his part to tell me that they're going to look after us as best they can and that in the end there's always going to be some kind of risk when we go back to work," said Deeney.
