Decisive Ramos earns Real Madrid narrow victory

Real Madrid won yet again after a hard-fought victory against Atheltic Bilbao that gives them a comfortable lead over Barcelona. The hosts were a worthy opponent but a penalty in the 71st minute earned the visitors the three points.

The result means that Madrid pile the pressure onto Barcelona by going seven points clear at the summit of La Liga with just four games left to play. Bilbao, meanwhile, remain in eighth but miss an opportunity to jump past Real Sociedad and closer to European qualification.

The first half was an open affair with both teams creating plenty of chances: Benzema and Rodrygo wasted huge chances for Madrid, while Raul Garcia went close for the hosts.

Both teams brought the pace and intensity, and Inaki Williams found himself one-on-one several times but some decent defending from Militao and a shot sent over the bar preventing his team from finding the back of the net.

The second half started out slowly, with half chances from Raul Garcia and Williams but no real pressure from either team until the 60th minute, when Simon had to intervene to make a save after a shot by Rodrygo.

The away side then took control of the second half and dominated the play until finally opening the scoring through a Ramos penalty after Marcelo was tripped in the area.

After that, Bilbao worked hard to try and find an equaliser, but Madrid expertly slowed the game down and held on to a huge three points.

Real Madrid claim a narrow, priceless victory after a tight game against Bilbao, and are comfortably at the top of LaLiga's table with Barcelona playing Villarreal tonight.
