De Jong, on the debate over his position: "it's crazy"

"In Ajax and the national team I play midfield, but it's different because we play with a double pivot. In the preseason and the first match with Barça I played midfield. Against Betis and Osasuna I played inside, and if the performance was not good, it's my fault. People began to discuss my position. If I had to play here or there and it was getting out of hand, it's crazy," he said in an interview for 'El Periódico'.

In this regard, De Jong stressed: "This is a simple position in the field. I'll do better in the next few games. I have to adapt. I've talked to Valverde about football issues, we've seen videos... The coach shouldn't ask me where I prefer to play. He's the coach and he decides.  Busquets has helped me with extra things, like advising me on a restaurant or making a reservation."

Additionally, the Dutch player also praised Barça's newest talent Ansu Fati: "He's got a lot, a lot, talent. It is not normal that a 16-year old plays in the first time, especially at Barça. That means you're very good and you work like a professional. He's better than me at 16. When I was 16, I was more like a child. He already looks like a professional."

Meanwhile, De Jong acknowledged that he would have gone to City or PSG if he didn't choose FC Barcelona and winked at his friend De Ligt: "I decided first! Of course, we talked many times about our options but I never told him he had to come to Barcelona. It was his choice. It was a decision he had to make with his family. Of course I would have liked him to come to Barcelona, but Juventus is a great club, and it's very good for him. You never know. Maybe in the future we'll meet...".
