Manchester City were the team to score first at the Etihad. This all important match started in the worst way possible for Klopp's side. Just five minutes after kick off he saw his Reds go a goal down at the home of their arch rivals.
The duels between the two sides in bygone seasons have been memorable, and this match was not going to be an exception. De Bruyne made it 1-0 in five minutes after he received a slick pass from Bernardo Silva and then shot towards goal.
The Belgian was served up a slice of luck as after he struck the ball, it took a wild deflection off Matip. This caused the ball to spin out of Alisson's reach as he dived to his left. The effort then struck the inside of the upright and ended up in the back of the net.
However, Liverpool's response did not take long to come. Diogo Jota levelled the scoring just eight minutes after the City goal. After some magnificent play down the left hand side from Alexander Arnold, the English left back sent in a beuatiful cross to the back post which was headed back to Jota in space, who swept it home.
On 36 minutes, Gabriel Jesus then put his team back in front. The Brazilian striker snuck cheekily behind the napping Liverpool defense to beat the offside trap and run onto a magical cross from Cancelo. He then deftly finished past an on-rushing Alisson.
