Kylian Mbappe's rise to the top of world football has been a drastic one to say the least, with the 19 year-old stunning pundits and players alike with his excellent performances at his first ever senior international tournament.
He made his name for Monaco in Ligue 1 during the 2016/17 season, where he helped his team win the league title for the first time in over a decade and reach the semi-final of the Champions League.
On the way to the last 4 of that year's competition, Mbappe lined up gaainst Kevin De Bruyne's Man City team, and ended up defeating them on away goals thanks to a 3-1 victory in the second leg. But before the tie, the Belgian midfielder had never even heard of him.
"He's become a star in France but when I was playing against him for City against Monaco he'd only played 10 matches,"' De Bruyne said.
"He hadn't played a lot of football and to tell the truth I didn't know him. Now he's playing for a great French team and in the Champions League."
The two players will now face off again in a crucial match that will see the France and belgium batle it out for a place in the World Cup final, and De Bruyne recognises the talent that the young Frenchman possesses.
"He's had a fantastic year and he can even improve if that's possible, so yes he will be a danger to us but we are going to try and stop him from playing." the former Wolfsburg playmaker explained.
He was not the only one to sing the praises of PSG's Mbappe, with Belgium captain Eden Hazard also commenting on the teenager.
"I have a lot of respect for what Mbappe is doing," Hazard said.
"If Mbappe was watching videos of me when he was younger, now it's me watching videos of him.
"What he does is amazing, especially at his age. In modern football, we have never seen that"
