David Luiz has signed a new contract at the club which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2021.

The Brazilian's contract was set to expire in the summer, but he has penned a new deal which sees him extend his stay until 2021.

Luiz, 32, has made 48 appearances for the Blues this season, and tucked home his spot kick in the penalty shootout win against Eintracht Frankfurt last night that set up an all-English Europa League final against Arsenal later this month.

With Chelsea's impending transfer ban leaving them unable to sign players this summer, the centre-back's stay could be seen as something of a necessity to ensure Maurizio Sarri's side have sufficient options at the back.

Upon signing his new deal, Luiz said:  "I am so happy to be here and to have this opportunity to stay. I love this club and I still have the ambition of a young player.

"It means a lot to reach another European final, and we still have the opportunity to finish in the top three of the Premier League this season and I will continue to try to do my best to help the team."
