Maurizio Sarri has told England midfielder, Danny Drinkwater, that he has no future at Chelsea in the current regime. Sarri told Drinkwater in August that he would be unable to adapt to Sarri's plans and has played just once this season, a cameo appearance in the Community Shield.
Drinkwater was signed from 2015/16 Premier League Champions, Leicester City, after being an important part of the incredible title winning season for the midlands club. He cost Chelsea £35m just 18 months ago but has never been able to push into the regular starting spot.
Drinkwater was charged for drink-driving after a crash in Cheshire just this week, with the 3 times capped midfielder to face the jury next month.
The 29 year old earns more than £100,000 a week a Chelsea and has a contract until 2022, but did not travel with the London side to the Czech Republic, where Chelsea take on Slavia Prague in the Europa League Quarter-Finals.
“As he knows very well, he has never played because, in my opinion, he is not suitable to my system, to my way of playing, I told him everything in August. He appreciated it but he decided to remain. And so he knew very well the situation." Sarri said on the matter.
Drinkwater has played just 23 times for Chelsea since joining two summers ago, scoring one goal.
