Matheus Cunha is now a Wolverhampton player. The striker left Atletico Madrid by launching a veiled attack on Diego Simeone, but his father has gone even further and been much more clear.
Carmelo Cunha, in comments to 'Globo Esporte', slated the Argentinian coach's formation and tactics: "With Simeone's system, there's no way a striker can be successful. It's very difficult."
His son Mateus had earlier commented on Simeone and the reasons for leaving the Spanish capital. "That's football, like any other job, there are those who in charge, he (Simeone) has his hierarchies and there are those who make decisions and then you have to make yours."
Carmelo also said he was happy about Mateus' new club. "He joins a good coach (Lopetegui), who has been calling him often. An international level coach. We only hope that he's successful in this challenge."
"Atletico? There was the offer to buy Cunha and they couldn't say 'no'. The Atleti owner might have wanted him to stay and the fans too, but they had to get money for him. He had already settled in Madrid, but that's football. He will get a lot of protagonism and we only wish him luck. Let's hope he has a great career in England," he concluded.
