Cubarsi could follow in Pedri's footsteps and feature in EURO and Olympics

The 2020-21 season was an odyssey for Pedri Gonzalez. The Spanish midfielder, now affected every few weeks by injuries, in his first season as a member of Barcelona's first team, played in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League. In addition, the Spanish national team called him up for the European Championship in Croatia and for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which took his total number of games played to more than 60.

Three years later, some experts suggest that this could be the source of his fragile physique today. He has been seen, for several matches, using his left leg more than his right for fear of muscle damage again, something that happened against Athletic last weekend at San Mamés. That is why any situation that resembles it instils fear in the 'Cules' fans.

According to Alfredo Martínez of 'Radio Estadio', this is exactly the direction in which the RFEF plans to hand Pau Cubarsi. The Barcelona young centre-back has made himself an interesting space in the line-ups of his coach, taking advantage of the lack of continuity of Inigo Martinez and other setbacks that have filled the Catalan team's infirmary. Luis de la Fuente, in fact, is considering calling him up for this month's friendlies with 'la Roja'.

The RFEF does not stop there with his potential contribution on the international stage, which could add to the friendlies against Colombia and Brazil a potential participation in the European Championship in Germany and the Olympic Games in Paris. Thanks to the fact that he is a recent addition to the Barcelona senior squad, if this were to happen, his level of fatigue would not reach that of Pedri's in 2021, but it would hardly be appropriate for the medical staff at Montjuic.
